Welcome to Wild Onion Studio, Susan Conn Italo's quilting and wearable art studio!

Ever since I got my first Barbie doll, I sewed my own clothes.  I was not as passionate about sewing clothes as I was about buying fabric.  Quilting is a perfect fit for me, and now that I've designed my Wild Onion Jacket pattern, I can quilt and sew clothes.   If I could figure out how to quilt shoes, I'd be ecstatic!

I bought my longarm quilting machine as soon as my youngest child went to school.  Actually, the truck delivered the machine the day after he started pre-school.  I adore longarm quilting and I'd rather be in my studio than anywhere else, except a fabric shop.  Or a shoe store.

I live in a small mountain town in California, surrounded by oak trees and horses.  My husband and 2 young sons all compete with my fabric for my attention.  My longarm quilting machine is a Gammill Optimum; her name is Phoebe.  My domestic sewing machine is a Pfaff Tiptronic; her name is Lucille.  My car is a mom-mobile; and yes, I named her, too.

One last thing:  Wild Onion is not just some crazy name I made up!  I am a transplanted Chicagoan, and I wanted to honor my hometown.  "Wild Onion" is the translation of Chicago.  Next time you are in Chicago, be on the lookout, and you'll see lots of onion references!
