This quilt is an irreplaceable marriage between the worlds of vintage and modern quilts as well as traditional textile art and of the moment design. The center classic lone star is a rescued piece of quilt history in exceptional pristine condition. The maker is unknown, but each piece was hand cut and hand sewn with care and talent. I discovered the gorgeous center and knew that it demanded to be finished. Instead of finishing it in a traditional lone star style, I paid homage to the work of my predecessor by showing how fully at home her work is in the present day. I created a one-of-a-kind pieced fabric background to highlight the colors and scale of the star, aswell as to give it a glwing effect. Finished with top quality quilting cottons and a cotton/linen blend in the border, the final result is built to last. The top was expertly quilted by world renowned and award winning quilter, Karen McTavish in her Duluth, MN studio. Modern Lone Star was included in a special exhibit honoring Karen as 2017 Quilter of the Year at the Minnesota Quilt Show. The large quilt includes a hanging sleeve for wall display or is suitable as a queen sized bed covering.
